The Western Section of the Lycian Way showcases some of the most dramatic coastal scenery and historically significant landscapes along the trail. This region combines high cliffs, deep valleys, secluded bays, and ancient Lycian cities, offering a varied and visually striking hiking experience.

Based in Ölüdeniz, this 6-day program is designed as a comfort-focused hiking journey, with daily walks following original Lycian paths and transfers used to optimize pacing. The route introduces hikers to the western gateways of Lycia, where mountain paths descend toward the Mediterranean and ancient settlements once controlled trade, agriculture, and coastal movement.

The hikes are moderate in difficulty, suitable for active travelers who enjoy walking, nature, and history without undertaking extreme trekking. Each day balances physical activity with cultural context and time to enjoy the coastline.

Day 1 – Arrival in Türkiye | Transfer to Ölüdeniz

Arrival in Türkiye. If arriving internationally via Istanbul, a domestic connection to Dalaman Airport (DLM) is required. Upon arrival in Dalaman, meet and greet at the airport followed by a transfer to your hotel in Ölüdeniz. The rest of the day is free to relax and enjoy the coastal setting before the hiking program begins. Overnight in Ölüdeniz.

Day 2 – Ovacık – Faralya

Begin hiking from Ovacık, following forest paths and rocky trails with views toward Babadağ Mountain and the turquoise coastline. As the trail approaches the cliffs, panoramic viewpoints open above Butterfly Valley, one of the most dramatic natural landmarks on the Lycian Way. The hike ends in Faralya, a small village perched high above the sea, offering sweeping coastal vistas and a strong sense of isolation that defines this part of the trail. Overnight in Ölüdeniz.

Day 3 – Yediburunlar (Gey) – Kabak Bay

Today’s route explores the Yediburunlar (Seven Capes) area, one of the wildest and most scenic sections of the Western Lycian Way. The trail follows narrow paths along steep cliffs, shaped by wind and sea over millennia. The descent leads into Kabak Bay, a sheltered cove where dense greenery meets the Mediterranean. After time to rest and enjoy the bay, transfer by vehicle back to Ölüdeniz. Overnight in Ölüdeniz.

Day 4 – Kayaköy – Ölüdeniz | Xanthos or Fethiye

Start the day in Kayaköy, an abandoned Greek village whose empty stone houses and churches reflect the population exchange of the early 20th century. Walking through the village offers a powerful historical contrast to the surrounding landscape. Continue hiking through pine forests toward Ölüdeniz Lagoon, where the trail meets one of Türkiye’s most iconic coastal scenes. In the afternoon, visit Xanthos, the ancient capital of Lycia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its monumental tombs and inscriptions, or return to Fethiye for a relaxed evening. Overnight in Ölüdeniz.

Day 5 – Bel – Dodurga (Sidyma)

Hike from Bel to Dodurga, following mountain paths that pass through quiet valleys and upland terrain. The route ends at Sidyma, a lesser-known Lycian city where ruins of temples, tombs, and sarcophagi are scattered among olive trees and village houses. This section offers insight into rural Lycian life and the strategic use of highland settlements away from the coast. After the hike, return to Ölüdeniz by vehicle. Overnight in Ölüdeniz.

Day 6 – Ölüdeniz – Dalaman Airport | Departure

Transfer to Dalaman Airport (DLM) for onward or return flights, concluding the Western Lycian Way hiking experience.
