This full-day tour explores the heart of ancient Lycia, combining major archaeological sites with one of the region’s most striking natural landscapes. Departing from Fethiye, the itinerary traces Lycian history from its political centers to its funerary traditions and coastal legacy, before concluding in a dramatic mountain gorge. The tour offers a well-balanced journey through Lycian, Roman, and Ottoman layers, alongside a refreshing nature experience.
The tour begins with a guided visit to Tlos, a prominent Lycian city with continuous occupation from antiquity through the Ottoman period. The site features dramatic rock-cut tombs, a Roman theater, bath complexes, and civic remains. Overlooking the ruins is an Ottoman-era fortress, highlighting the long strategic importance of the location.
Continue to Xanthos, the ancient capital of Lycia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known for its unique Lycian funerary architecture, monumental tombs, and inscriptions, Xanthos provides insight into Lycian political structure, resistance to foreign rule, and cultural identity. The visit focuses on the city’s role as the ceremonial and administrative center of Lycia.
The tour proceeds to Patara, one of Lycia’s most important harbor cities. The site includes a well-preserved Roman theater, colonnaded streets, baths, and civic buildings. Patara is also traditionally known as the birthplace of St. Nicholas. Time is allocated to explore the ruins and understand the city’s maritime and political significance.
In the afternoon, visit Saklıkent Gorge, a dramatic canyon carved by mountain waters. Guests walk through the gorge along wooden platforms and shallow stream sections, enjoying the cool microclimate and towering canyon walls. This final stop provides a refreshing contrast to the archaeological visits earlier in the day.
